I’m a professor at the Department of Computer Science of the Federal University of Espírito Santo (UFES). I currently hold a position of “Professor Adjunto”, which Wikipedia claims is equivalent to “Assistant Professor” in the U.S. (although in Brazil this is a tenure track position after a 3 years probation period).

I earned my PhD degree in 2012 at the International Doctoral School on Information and Communication Technology of the University of Trento under the direction of professor John Mylopoulos. For more information on the research done in this context, please see my PhD Thesis.

Previous to that, during my masters degree in Computer Science at UFES, in 2007, my work was in the area of Web Engineering under the orientation of Prof. Ricardo de Almeida Falbo and Prof. Giancarlo Guizzardi. Results from this work can be found in the Publications page.

Research Groups

I’m currently a member of the Ontologies & Conceptual Modeling Research Group (NEMO) at UFES.

During my PhD in Italy, I was a member of the Software Engineering and Formal Methods Group at the University of Trento, participating in the project “Lucretius: Foundations for Software Evolution” (ERC advanced grant 267856, unfolding during the period of April 2011 — March 2016).

Areas of Interest

I’m interested in the areas of Conceptual Modeling and Software Engineering, more specifically Requirements Engineering, the use of Ontologies in Software Engineering, Web Engineering and the Semantic Web. I’m currently working with three specific research topics:

  • Requirements Engineering, in particular the design and development of adaptive systems and the broader theme of Software Evolution;
  • Web Engineering, proposing methods for architectural design of Web applications with the focus on the role of frameworks in this type of software system;
  • The Semantic Web, integrating with the methods proposed in the Web Engineering line of research, offering tools that enable and facilitate the publication of linked data on the Web.
