Background

In 1979, after completing high school, I attended the Federal University of Espirito Santo (UFES) where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics (January 1884). In 1985, I got a position at UFES as a teacher in the Mathematics Department, and now I am an Associated professor at the Computer Science Department at UFES. In 1987, I obtained a Master of Science (MSc) in Applied Mathematics from the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP) under Cristina Cunha. In 1996, I finished my Master of Science (MSc) in Engineering Mechanics at the University of Texas at Austin (UT at Austin) under Dr. Eric B. Becker advising. In 2001, I got my Ph.D at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) where I was working in the Civil Engineering Department under Dr. Alvaro Coutinho and Dr. Graham F. Carey. In 2006, I went to the Institute for Computational Engineering and Science (ICES) at UT at Austin as a sabbatical visitor to work with Dr. Graham F. Carey. We have collaborative research on coupled fluid flow and heat transfer (2001-2004) and parallel adaptive finite element (2004-2010).
